Scientific Event on "Eastern Human Rights: From Theory to Practice" Held at the University of Isfahan The Director of Academic and Scientific Cooperation at the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization stated during the opening ceremony of the one-day workshop titled “Eastern Human Rights: From Theory to Practice”: “The presumption that human rights originate exclusively from Western civilization is incorrect, considering the historical precedence of Eastern civilizations over the West. Moreover, the current state of human rights has numerous shortcomings that are evident to the world. The Eastern region, with its focus on religion, values, and cultural norms, has the potential to play a significant role in the historical evolution of the world and occupy an important position in the new global order.” Mohammad Ali Rabbani, speaking this morning on Wednesday, December 11th, at the preliminary conference “Eastern Human Rights: From Theory to Practice” held at the University of Isfahan, emphasized: “One of the duties of academic institutions is to address and clarify the challenges that the Islamic Republic faces in various fields. Among these challenges is the issue of human rights, which remains a pressing concern for the world and our nation. The global and regional circumstances highlight the critical importance of human rights.” He added: “According to a report published by Human Rights Watch on the situation in the region, we are witnessing an unprecedented era of disregarding international laws. This reflects the approach of Western human rights in today’s world.” Rabbani pointed out two perspectives on Eastern human rights: “The first viewpoint suggests that human rights are solely derived from Western principles and that these concepts are fixed and immutable, forcing us to operate within this framework. The second viewpoint advocates for redefining these concepts, creating a new framework, and replacing the current inefficient human rights system.” He further asserted: “The notion that human rights stem solely from Western civilization is flawed due to the historical precedence of Eastern civilizations. Additionally, the current state of affairs suffers from deficiencies acknowledged by the global community. The Eastern domain, with its emphasis on religious and cultural values, can play a pivotal role in the historical evolution of the world and establish a significant position in the emerging global order.” The Deputy for Development at the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization remarked: “This conference aims to address this cultural and civilizational challenge by uniting Eastern countries, fostering coalition-based dialogue, and drafting charters and documents on Eastern human rights. This event, organized in collaboration with Baqir al-Olum University and other institutions, will be held in March." Back
