The Fourth Preliminary Session of the Eastern Human Rights Assembly

The Fourth Preliminary Session of the Eastern Human Rights Assembly was held as a scientific promotional session on the morning of Monday, December 5th, in the Peace Hall of the Faculty of Law and Political Science at Allameh Tabataba'i University, with the participation of students and scholars.

This session featured a presentation by Dr. Ghaffari (Associate Professor of Public and International Law at Allameh Tabataba'i University), with Dr. Shahbazi (Associate Professor of the same department) as the critic. The secretary of the session was Dr. Mohammad Hosseini (Secretary of the Eastern Human Rights International Assembly).

Dr. Ghaffari began her discussion titled Challenges and Solutions for the Development of Cultural Rights in the Framework of Eastern Human Rights. She described cultural rights as encompassing a wide range of human rights, emphasizing their importance for the realization of freedoms and other rights. She highlighted the point that cultural rights include beliefs, values, and human behaviors connected to individuals' true essence and identity. However, they have been relatively neglected compared to economic and social rights, and often lack proper enforcement mechanisms.

She suggested introducing the universal Islamic perspective on cultural rights to address this lack of attention, utilizing ICESCO’s capacity to strengthen authentic Islamic culture and protect the cultural identity of Muslims. Additionally, she recommended leveraging cultural diplomacy under the leadership of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

In the next part of the session, Dr. Shahbazi pointed out international limitations to the development of cultural rights and stressed the importance of creating unity among Muslim nations and the broader cultural East. She argued that one of the main keys to advancing cultural rights is focusing on shared cultural elements as the foundation for developing legal norms.
