Policy Council Meeting for the International Eastern Human Rights Conference Held The Policy Council meeting for the International Eastern Human Rights Conference was held on Sunday, October 28th, hosted by the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization in Tehran. Dr. Khosropanah, Secretary of the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution, described the Eastern Human Rights Conference as significant and influential in his remarks. He expressed hope that the conference's objectives would be achieved without delay. Dr. Khosropanah emphasized that one dimension of Eastern human rights focuses on analyzing the shortcomings of Western human rights. He highlighted the Eastern civilization and culture, criticizing the overlooked and underrepresented potential of the East in the international arena. Following this, Hojjatoleslam Imanipour, Head of the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization, stated that according to the Supreme Leader, Zionism has been defeated; however, a greater defeat must occur in the realm of Western culture and civilization. He regarded the Eastern Human Rights Conference and similar dialogues as essential for forming the foundation of a new Islamic civilization. He further explained that the conference's international level aims to create a continuum between networking for collaboration and contributing effectively to shaping the charter of this civilization and its implementation. Dr. Rafiei Alavi, President of Baqir al-Olum University, stated in this session that the core foundation of a new civilization lies in movements and currents arising from civilizations, religions, and cultural societies. In the West, an intellectual movement has monopolized and appropriated the concept of human rights for its benefit. He noted that we are facing challenges created by the West against other societies. Dr. Rafiei Alavi added that while this approach might seem ambitious to some, the significance of religions, communities, and human cultures indicates that the cultural East's potential for advancing this idea has not been properly understood. He expressed hope that, with the cooperation of both legal entities and individuals, the establishment of a permanent secretariat and progress towards policymaking in this area could be achieved. Dr. Omidifar, Head of the Office of International Agreements at the Presidency, welcomed the idea of Eastern human rights and stated that the continuous impact of this initiative depends on drafting related documents. He emphasized that care must be taken to ensure that the idea of Eastern human rights is not limited to the geographical East, allowing its benefits to be accessible to any individual or country aligned with Eastern thinking. It is worth noting that representatives from various institutions, such as the International Affairs Department of the Judiciary, the Human Rights Directorate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Research Center of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, the Overseas Department of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting, the Cultural Affairs Directorate of the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance, the Law Research Group of Isfahan University, and the Legal Directorate of the Presidency, were present at this meeting. The International Eastern Human Rights Conference will be held on February 20th and 21st, 2025, organized by the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization and Baqir al-Olum University. Back
